The original platted village, laid out in 1867 on 24 lots at the intersection of the Fairland, Franklin and Martinsville Railroad and Bluff Road, contains some of the oldest residential structures in the area. Homes here may predate or date to the early 20th century, with wood frame windows that have experienced over a century of thermal cycling, paint failure, and rot. Replacement with modern vinyl or fiberglass frames is a high priority for any home that still retains original wood sash units.
